The pleasure principle
an exhibition commissioned by PornhubThis September, Maccarone Los Angeles presents ‘The Pleasure Principle,’ a
pan-generational, sexually-charged exhibition of female artists whose work
centers the erotic and disrupts the processes of content-cleansing that code
certain images as profane, abject, or pornographic. Through a variety of
mediums, these artists unravel social constructions of pleasure, pointing to
the tension between that which is felt and that which is performed – between
sexuality and sexiness. ‘The Pleasure Principle’ dismantles the art/porn
binary, positing arousal as a universal goal, transcending boundaries that
separate the sexual from the aesthetic, the surreal from the sensible, the
occult from the mainstream.
