Apple Event 2024 Insights

Every year millions of people around the world tune into the big Apple event streamed online. All the innovative products of the year are presented to consumers, from iPhones to Apple Watches to other gadgets the company is set to release later in the year. So, when our friends at Mashable asked our statisticians to pull the data and see how it affected the activity on Pornhub, they were happy to oblige!

To catch all the action, our statisticians focused on the number of pages being viewed each minute on Pornhub, which reflects both the number of visitors in the U.S. and how active those visitors were when browsing pages and videos.

The event took place on September 9, 2024. First, they unveiled the new Apple Watch, then the new AirPods, and ended with the latest model of the iPhone. Our statisticians split the data between Apple and non-Apple users to see how the scales tipped in either direction. Leading up to the starting time of 1 p.m. EDT, traffic for users on Apple products began to drop. At 1 p.m., there was a drop of –13.5% for Apple devices and an increase of +0.7% by non-Apple devices. And by around 1:01 p.m., traffic from Apple devices had dropped by –15.2%.

The numbers remained the same when they introduced the new Apple Watch, with a drop of around –13%. But when they talked about the Health Tracking Recap at 1:12 p.m., interest began to wane for Apple users and there was a small percentage increase for non-Apple users. By 1:16 p.m., page views were down –12.4% on Apple devices.

During the sleep apnea feature, fitness feature, and Apple Watch ultra news, the numbers remained around –8% to –11% for Apple devices. It wasn’t until the new AirPods 4 were announced that those numbers dropped again, suggesting Apple users might be more interested in the AirPods than the Apple Watch. By 1:34 p.m., traffic was down –14.9% for Apple devices. Around this same time, our statisticians began to see a small increase in traffic to the site by non-Apple users, seemingly indicating their disinterest in the products.

The iPhone 16 was unveiled at 1:44 p.m. and was the highlight of the event. Page views for Apple users were down –14.4% and up +1.7% for non-Apple users. By 1:49 p.m., activity from Apple devices was down the most during the day, at –16.4%.

The numbers dropped by a few percentage points and then went back up during the Apple Intelligence recap and new Siri features before dropping again when Apple introduced the iPhone 16 camera, when activity for Apple users was down –11.8% and non-Apple users were up +1.6%.

Those numbers dropped again for Apple users when Apple discussed gaming on the iPhone 16, with –15.3%. After that, interest overall for Apple users seemed to wane as they introduced the iPhone 16 Pro.

At 2:15 p.m. Apple user page views were down –13.1% and non-Apple users were up 2.3%. By this point, Apple people seemed to lose interest. Perhaps the innovation of the year wasn’t as compelling as previous years. By the time they discussed the iPhone 16 Pro camera, activity for Apple users was only down –8.8% and non-Apple users were up 1.9%. Those percentage rates remained similar as the event ended.

Within 10 minutes after the event ended, traffic for Apple users had returned to normal levels, matching that of non-Apple devices.
